Before the team’s final open Organized Team Activities (OTAs) before the local media, New Orleans Saints head coach Kellen Moore shed some light on the ongoing conversations between the team and defensive end Cameron Jordan.
“Yeah, contract offer available,” Moore said. ”Cam’s kind of navigating this thing on the personal side, and I think the world of Cam…Obviously here to help in any possible way. We know what he means to this organization, the city, and so if the opportunity presents itself and he feels comfortable and ready to go. Then we’d be ready to rock and roll.”
General manager Mickey Loomis also mentioned, back during the team’s Annual Celebrity Golf Classic, that a contract had been offered to the long-time defensive end. Moore’s comments now confirm that conversations between the club and Jordan have continued.
“It’s just been a continuous conversation,” Moore said. “I think Mickey and Cam have had really good dialogue for a number of months now, just kind of talking through this thing and having open ears for everyone.”
Should things come together for the Saints and Jordan, it would likely be the finishing touch on the team’s defense. However, there’s excitement around what star edge rusher Chase Young is set to bring to the table during his second year in defensive coordinator Brandon Staley’s system.
Young took to NFL Network in a recent interview and made it clear that he’d love to see Jordan back in the locker room. His leadership and continued production would both be welcome returns for an increasingly young Saints roster.
With mandatory minicamp on the way and a break before training camp begins in earnest in late July, there’s a good chance that if things do progress between the two parties, that news is still a few weeks away. But any interest that could bring Jordan back to New Orleans is clearly still on the table.
