LSU adds USC two-way transfer Diego Velasquez

LSU kept its portal momentum going on Tuesday.

The Tigers picked up a commitment from USC transfer Diego Velasquez who just finished his freshman season with the Trojans. Glenn Guilbeau of Tiger Rag first reported the news. LouisianaSports.net has confirmed it.

Velasquez is a 6-foot-1, 200 pound right-handed pitcher who did swing the bat a little bit for the Trojans in 2026. As a pitcher, he made 13 appearances, five as a starter. He logged 29.2 innings and pitched to a 4.55 ERA striking out 34 hitters and walking just nine.

As a hitter, he was 3-for-18 (.167) with a double and four walks.

LSU plans to use Velasquez as a pitcher primarily, but his high school career was exceptional in the field. Perfect Game ranked him the fifth best shortstop in California and the 15th ranked overall player in his class.

That versatility is an asset with only one year of eligibility used thus far.
