There may not be a player with more to gain upon joining the New Orleans Saints this offseason than edge rusher Tyree Wilson.
After three seasons with the Las Vegas Raiders that didn’t necessarily match the expectations around his draft position, he now has a fresh start in a new environment and defense that could change his NFL future for the better.
When Wilson first joined the Saints after being acquired via trade during the 2026 NFL Draft, there were still questions about whether or not the team would continue to invest at edge rusher and whether or not veteran defensive end Cameron Jordan would return.
Now that both of those questions have been answered, the framework for what’s on the line for Wilson has been set, and it turns out there’s a lot of opportunity for him.
Wilson isn’t just fighting to prove himself in 2026, he’s fighting to prove he can continue to be an impact player beyond.
While the Saints did end up with Jordan back on the roster, he’s also settled on this being his final season in the league.
That means if Wilson can achieve his goal of proving that he can be a productive, first-round caliber player, he could solidify a future for himself in New Orleans.
It wouldn’t be the first time something like this has happened. Very recently edge rusher Chase Young found his new home in the Big Easy after facing scrutiny early in his career.
Like Young, Wilson isn’t seeking a rebrand, he’s seeking the new direction of his NFL future. His pursuit begins in earnest as training camp kicks off.
