It’s still list season apparently. The start of the season is under a month away, but the amount of top ten stadium lists, and any list for that matter, are still flooding social media. So why not another. Ranking the best stadiums in the country is played out. Let’s take a look at the five biggest home field advantages in individual games this upcoming season around the SEC.
5. Alabama at Tennessee, Week 7
This will be a big game for both teams. It always is. This year’s game could be a catalyst for a momentum shift in the the rest of the season for either squad. The annual Third Saturday in October, as it’s called, comes at very different points of the season for Alabama and Tennessee. For Tennessee it’s sandwiched in between two road games at Arkansas and South Carolina. For Alabama it’s in between two home games against college football playoff teams from a season ago, Georgia and Texas A&M. Neither team should have more than two losses at this point of the season, but the loser of this one will most likely be getting its second or third loss on the season before Halloween. That puts the loser of this one behind the eightball if they want to make the CFP or out of the race entirely.
4. Oklahoma at Georgia, Week 4
Two teams that mirror each other in identity. They play tough, physical defense and have an offense that can win any game if it gets to 20 points. This is the first time these two teams have met since the iconic Rose Bowl matchup on New Year’s Day in 2018. Both teams went to the CFP a year ago, and both have aspirations of returning once again this season. It’s Georgia’s biggest home game of the year by far in a building where they have lost just once since 2020. Sanford Stadium isn’t the most welcoming atmosphere for opposing teams or fans which is one of the reasons the Dawgs are currently a 9.5 point favorite in some sportsbooks.
3. Florida at Auburn, Week 3
There may be no truer definition of a toss up game in the SEC this season than this one. Two fairly evenly matched teams with evenly matched expectations in year one of a new coach. What makes this one so interesting is that both head coaches were loosely mentioned as candidates at each of these schools during the offseason hiring process. Jordan-Hare Stadium is a place where dreams have gone to die for a lot of teams over the years. You get the feeling that if this game was played in The Swamp, Florida would be favored. It’s not. The team with homefield in this one has traditionally won the game, especially when the teams are as evenly matched as they are this year.
2. LSU at Ole Miss, Week 3
It’s the most anticipated game of the 2026 season in the entire country, and there are no other stadiums that will be as venomous as this one during week three. The scary part for LSU traveling to Ole Miss this year is that this isn’t a light switch game. The intensity isn’t going to just be turned on the week of the game. It’s been on since December, and it will only get more intense as the game gets closer. Don’t expect that to stop after kickoff or when the final whistle blows either. This one will be insane until the final LSU bus leaves town.
1. Ohio State at Texas, Week 2
We saw a year ago how important home field advantage was in this game. We also saw how important playing at home is to Steve Sarkisian’s teams who struggled tremendously on the road in comparison to at home. This should be one of the biggest games of the year. It will feature two blue blood programs as well as be an all-time uniform matchup. The winner will have a big head start at achieving their goals for the end of the season despite it only being the second week of the year. It feels like getting this game in Austin will be a huge help for Texas.
