While the New Orleans Saints will have to move ahead managing a hamstring injury for explosive rookie wide receiver Jordyn Tyson, the team still has some exciting rookie talent to build up thanks to a triple investment at the position in the NFL Draft.
The Saints are now in unknown territory with Tyson when it comes to his availability to open the season thanks to an unfortunate hamstring injury suffered in the club’s joint practice against the Jacksonville Jaguars, but still have another pair of dynamic rookie wideouts to continue to incorporate.
Wide receiver Bryce Lance has been surging as of late stringing together a line of big plays generated in practice.
Meanwhile sixth-rounder Barion Brown was the first darling of training camp.
The Saints’ decision to triple-up at wideout is turning out to be one of the better ones they made during the draft.
Without Lance and Brown waiting in the wings and impressing, New Orleans may have ended up in a situation where it would feel pressured to rush Tyson back to the field.
Now, the Saints don’t have to feel that way.
New Orleans has already proven it can move the ball well through the air with wideouts Chris Olave and Devaughn Vele and tight end Juwan Johnson dominating the targets from quarterback Tyler Shough.
This year, all four are back together with the additions of Lance, Brown, running back Travis Etienne Jr. and more tight end options like Noah Fant, Oscar Delp and a swiftly developing Moliki Matavao.
Should Tyson miss any time to start the season, which may be worth consideration in favor of his long-term prospects, the team’s decisions in the draft put it squarely in a position of confidence to absorb the blow.
Then, once Tyson is fully cleared and ready to go, he provides an exciting jolt to the offense.
This year’s draft was the first time the Saints drafted three wide receivers in a single year since 1989. Turns out, it was right on time.
