Saints injury roundup ahead of preseason finale

Heading into the final preseason matchup, the New Orleans Saints have sustained a healthy number of injuries, so many in fact that the team has shifted from deploying first, second and third teams throughout practice to only using first and second teams.

In the club’s most recent practice, 15 players were not present or available. The absences range from long-term unavailability that’s already been known to maintenance programs that range in severity. Here’s the latest that’s known on each player and their status.

WR Jordyn Tyson

Tyson is expected to miss the opening of the season with a hamstring injury, possibly into October. This makes him a candidate for short-term Injured Reserve (IR) which would keep him out for at least the first four games. However, if the Saints believe that he could potentially make his way back before then, they could carry him on the active roster without losing a gameday roster spot thanks to practice squad elevations.

WR Trey Palmer

The injury for Trey Palmer hasn’t yet been disclosed. He left the joint practice against the Los Angeles Rams early due to more of an inconvenience than an injury and did participate in the preseason game against the team days later. He took 36 offensive snaps and four special teams names in the game. However, he has not been spotted out at practice since returning to New Orleans.

WR Mason Tipton

This has been the rhythm of Mason Tipton’s offseason thus far. He underwent surgery for a fibula injury during the offseason and has not yet taken the field for the team. He has, however, been around at an observation capacity consistently.

RB Devin Neal

One of the team’s many hamstring injuries at the moment, running back Devin Neal doesn’t sound like he’ll be back very soon, though he could end up coming back early in the season. Sources with knowledge of the injury have told LouisianaSports.Net that Neal may soon meet with a specialist to evaluate why the hamstring injury has been a recurring situation for him since arriving in the league. He’s clearly looking to exhaust every option to be available and get back out on the field. If that ends up being the lane he takes, the injury may keep him off of the field a bit longer in order to maximize his success upon returning.

CB Quincy Riley

During the joint practice against the Dallas Cowboys, cornerback Quincy Riley left with a groin injury. He’s been seen observing practices and pregame routines, which is always a positive sign. Ideally, the Saints would like to have him back in the early portion of the season. There is no timeline for his return right now, but it appears that an early comeback is possible.

S Lorenzo Styles Jr.

The calf injury for rookie Lorenzo Styles Jr. is one that Head Coach Kellen Moore said will lead to “time lost” for Styles, indicating an injury on the serious side. A quick return for the young defender perhaps isn’t impossible, but at least sounds unlikely following Moore’s comments.

C Dalys Beanum

A practice squad fixture for the team last year, cornerback Dalys Beanum is currently managing an undisclosed injury.

RB Alvin Kamara

This one has always felt more like caution over severity. Running back Alvin Kamara is nursing a knee injury that forced him off the field against the Cowboys in their California joint practice. It’s an injury that could bleed into the regular season, but the Saints are playing this one safe in the hopes of having him back as soon as possible.

RG Cesar Ruiz

Another injury from the joint practice with the Rams, starting right guard Cesar Ruiz has been on ice since with what appeared to be an ankle injury. This may be another overly-cautious approach by New Orleans in order to preserve one of its starters for the regular season. Ruiz was in good spirits following the Rams practice, but has not been spotted on the field since.

LB Chris Rumph II

This has been one of the longer-running injuries of camp. Linebacker Chris Rumph II is managing his own ankle injury and has been out for multiple weeks.

OL Torricelli Simpkins III

Concussion protocol will dictate the return to action for backup center Torricelli Simpkins III. He was evaluated during the second preseason game and hasn’t been seen participating in practice since. It feels like Simpkins has a definite roster spot going into 2026. Allowing him to progress at his own rate through concussion protocol is the safe choice.

OL Barry Wesley

Backup lineman Berry Wesley hasn’t been seen for the few practices following preseason Week 4, during which he participated for 41 offensive snaps. His injury is thus far undisclosed.

TE Oscar Delp

The third, and not final, hamstring injury of this list, rookie tight end Oscar Delp sounds like he could return soon. The Saints haven’t been in a rush to push him back, however. He’s another player with a presumably set roster spot and therefore a lesser need to participate in the final preseason game.

EDGE Cameron Jordan

Here is the final hamstring injury of the list. Defensive leader Cameron Jordan has been out for a number of weeks as well with his hamstring injury. The injury could jeopardize his availability early in the season, but the Saints have dedicated a long runway to get him back as early as possible.

DL John Ridgeway III

Defensive tackle John Ridgeway III has navigated multiple injuries this offseason but the most recent is a lower leg ailment that could challenge his availability in the opening weeks.
