As the New Orleans Saints host their first home game of the 2026 season against the Las Vegas Raiders, an important opportunity awaits.
The Saints’ 3:25 p.m. CT kickoff represents a chance for the team to make a statement in front of its home audience that competitive football is back in New Orleans.
Since 2021, the Saints are just 18-24 in home games (42.8%) after going 80-40 (66.7%) during the 2006-2020 stretch.
The club also went from scoring 29.9 points per game in the 2006-2020 span at home (most in the NFL), to an average of just 21.2 since (No. 26).
What was previously known as “Domefield Advantage” has dissipated in the team’s five-year playoff drought.
New Orleans (1-1) opened the 2026 season on the road, coming one play shy of a 2-0 start, but still exceeded expectations by knocking off the Baltimore Ravens.
As the team returns to the Caesars Superdome in Week 3, it’s an opportunity for the team to hold a winning record for the first time since Week 3 of the 2024 season. It’s also a chance to prove to the hometown fans that the team is working toward achieving its goal to field a team worthy of competing for its division and making a postseason return.
That would be a beneficial way to kick off what will be a three-game home stand for the team as it hosts the Las Vegas Raiders, Atlanta Falcons (Monday Night Football) and Minnesota Vikings in consecutive weeks.
With excitement around quarterback Tyler Shough, wide receiver Chris Olave, edge rusher Chase Young and more stars and contributors on the roster, a convincing win against an undefeated and better-than-anticipated Raiders team could be the perfect statement.
With a win Sunday, the Saints could be on their way to reviving homefield (or “Domefield”) advantage and igniting a passionate fanbase ready to support a competitive, exciting and still-growing team.
