NEW ORLEANS – The New Orleans Saints put up an embarrassing performance against the Atlanta Falcons under their brightest lights of the season.
After an awful showing in the fourth quarter against the Las Vegas Raiders at home last week, the Saints (1-3) pulled off an encore instead with four quarters of subpar performances with a 45-24 loss to NFC South Division rival Atlanta.
The Story
On a night when the Saints were supposed to be celebrating one of their most important franchise moments, they instead fell flat again in front of their home audience.
With a chance to prove their potential under the national spotlight the team instead showed all of its most common recurring flaws. A late start, a faulty run game and a porous run defense bore all of its worst qualities for the world to see.
The loss was representative of all of the things fans hoped they’d not see from the team on a night meant to commemorate the beginning of the Saints’ golden era.
Silver linings won’t be found in this one, despite some positive showings. But ultimately it’s all for naught after an abysmal showing against the bitter rival Falcons.
