Pour one out. Another high profile quarterback is out for the season. In a year where we’ve already lost projected first round picks Julian Sayin and Dante Moore, the latest bit of bad news was that Mississippi State’s Kamario Taylor will miss the remainder of the season with a turf toe injury.
With Taylor out and five name Sarah Jessica Parker Billy Puckett going in, there’s some shuffling in the quarterback rankings.
Bottom 6
15. Parker Billy Puckett, Mississippi State
11. George MacIntyre, Tennessee
Tier 2 QB 1s
It was a back-down-to-earth game for Brown and Auburn after their big win against Georgia. His back-to-back games with 100 yards rushing shrunk to 19 carries for 20 yards. He did have one rushing touchdown though which was a lone bright spot on the day for the Tigers.
I’m not sure what’s more surprising, Manning leading Texas to more ranked wins than any other team in the country, or him somehow ranking behind John Mateer in QBR, Passer Rating, passing yards, completion percentage, and yards per attempt.
Mateer had his best game of the year against the worst defense in the SEC. That’s how it’s supposed to be.
Simmons was on a bye.
Minchey continues to be the best quarterback in the country at protecting the football. He has 16 touchdowns and just one interception on the year.
Top 5
5. Trinidad Chambliss, Ole Miss
The completion percentage numbers are down from a year ago, but Chambliss has still been outstanding. The three interceptions against Texas were shocking, considering he had never thrown more than two in a game at the Power Four level and he threw three all of last season combined. He’s in a bit of a slump over the last two games completing only 51% of his passes and averaging just 5.6 yards per attempt against Missouri and Texas.
4. LaNorris Sellers, South Carolina
Sellers became a different quarterback in October. In his last three games he has 990 yards of offense, 10 touchdowns, and just one interception. More importantly, South Carolina has won back-to-back games against Top 20 teams for just the third time in program history.
Russell had his struggles against Texas A&M, but he was big when they needed him most. He ranks third in the SEC in QBR and Passer Rating. He’s also second in the league with 20 touchdowns on the year. He’s at his best late in games and has a fourth quarter completion percentage of 78.9% and passer rating of 185.58.
Stockton was on a bye following the loss to Auburn.
Forget the interceptions, no one has been better over the last several games than Sam Leavitt. Leavitt torched Auburn for 441 yards of offense, and he’s been remarkable over his last several games. He leads the SEC in touchdowns and passing yards. He’s also completed over 70% of his passes in each of his last five games, and don’t look now, but he’s failed to throw an interception in each of his last two games.
