Along with the activation of rookie wide receiver Jordyn Tyson, the New Orleans Saints made a surprise move on Saturday afternoon releasing their most productive, available running back.
Per Nick Underhill of NewOrleans.Football, the Saints have released running back Kendre Miller.
Miller’s 26.5 rushing yards per game this season topped the team’s running backs among those that are available going into Sunday’s game against the Cleveland Browns.
Miller was a third-round selection by the team during the 2023 draft. His career has been often derailed thus far by a variety of injuries, but the this season started off well from that perspective after navigating injuries during training camp.
Without Miller, the Saints are heading into their Week 9 game against Cleveland with Alvin Kamara and Audric Estime active at the position. The team is also without CJ Donaldson, who has been ruled out with shoulder and concussion designations.
The team does have two backs, Zamir White and Jarquez Hunter, on the practice squad as well, each of which could be activated for game day.
Travis Etienne Jr., the team’s top back, remains on injured reserve with a hamstring injury.
New Orleans has struggled to run the football this season, averaging just 86 rushing yards per game, and have begun making significant changes to their approach.
Miller’s release signals the next big departure from where the team has been and where it’s headed next.
