The wait is over for the New Orleans Saints and their fans with first-round pick and dynamic wide receiver Jordyn Tyson expected to make his debut on Sunday against the Cleveland Browns.
Per NFL Insider Jordan Schultz, Tyson is expected to be on the field and available for the Saints after nearly three months of working his way back from a hamstring injury. A source confirmed the report with LouisianaSports.Net.
It’s great news for a Saints team that can use another dynamic threat to help give a boost to the offense, especially a passing game that has seen a sharp decline over the last few weeks.
Saints Passing Yards Per Game
- Weeks 1-4: 278.5
- Weeks 5-7: 164.7
Tyson returned to practice after the Week 8 bye week and looked very comfortable moving, running, leaping and cutting throughout individual drills seen by the media in attendance. By Friday afternoon, there was a clear confidence that Tyson could very well play in the Browns matchup.
Tyson, the No. 8 overall selection, injured his Aug. 13 during a joint practice against the Jacksonville Jaguars. He returned to practice on Nov. 4, feeling 100% and ready to contribute.
“Yes sir,” Tyson said when asked about feeling 100%. “Just been rehabbing. Just been spending a lot of time with (director of rehabilitation Garrett Holle), (head athletic trainer Shone Gipson) and (director of sports medicine Ben Stollberg) and just trying to get back right.”
Just how much Tyson sees the field will come to light on game day, but having a specific package of plays for him to start to get acclimated to in live action is a major step forward for the receiver.
Tyson brings elite playmaking and some yards after the catch potential to the offense. Even getting him involved in the short areas of the field early, with some packages also mixed in to draw attention away from wide receiver Chris Olave and other pass-catching weapons, could benefit the Saints’ offense as well.
Regardless of the snap count, it’s a big development for the Saints team that’s still in position to contend in the NFC South.
