Giving back to the community is an important part of many NFL players’ goals as they enter the league. The New Orleans Saints’ second-year quarterback Spencer Rattler has wasted no time doing just that. In fact, he didn’t even wait to get in the league.
Over the last three summers, Rattler has held a youth football camp in South Carolina, with the latest being held on July 1.
Great weekend back in Columbia for our 3rd annual kids camp. Thank you to everybody who participated. We had a blast! 🙌🏽 pic.twitter.com/ZxE8t2DcUd

Rattler missed a throwing session that was organized by wide receiver Brandin Cooks and other Saints passers and pass-catchers in order to be in attendance. A sacrifice he made in order to give back to the community that he feels gave much to him.
“I think it’s important,” Rattler told ABC25’s Chaz Frazier. “They gave so much to me, showed me so much love and I had such a great time here. Obviously I’m an alumni here, graduated from here. So, I want to come back each year and give back to the kids and that’s what it’s about.”

Rattler has expressed often his desires to stay connected to the youth of Columbia, SC. by finding ways to give back. Here he is making good on those words.
The camp included at least 70 kids that attended, worked with Rattler and others that helped to support the camp. It’s a veteran gesture by the team’s young quarterback who will be battling for a starting NFL job in less than a month.
His primary competition, rookie Tyler Shough, worked with the Manning Passing Academy this offseason as a counselor, the first time a player turned pro and went back to work with the group. Both quarterbacks are proving their desire to remain connected to their communities and give back to them in the process.
Oh, and don’t worry about that throwing session Rattler missed with the other Saints’ quarterbacks and receivers. Another is set to be organized soon in Arizona and Rattler and Cooks held their own session previously.
