The New Orleans Saints have selected their starting quarterback for the second preseason game against the Jacksonville Jaguars.
The Saints announced Saturday afternoon that they will go with rookie Tyler Shough as this week’s starter after giving second-year quarterback Spencer Rattler the nod in the first week.

This will give New Orleans a chance to evaluate its young option as he prepares to set the tone in a game as a starter for his first time in the league.
During last week’s exhibition match with the Los Angeles Chargers, Shough entered the game late in the second quarter, leading a field goal drive. He later bounced back from his “welcome to the NFL” moment, tossing a 54-yard touchdown to wide receiver Mason Tipton.

It’s unclear how many starters will be in the offensive unit for Shough as the game begins. But in any case, this is an important opportunity for the second-round pick who has picked up a lot of steam in the team’s quarterback battle over recent weeks.
Last week, Shough went 15/22 for 165 passing yards, a passing touchdown and an interception.
