METAIRIE, La. — The final preseason game is on the way for the New Orleans Saints as they ready themselves to take on the Denver Broncos and former head coach Sean Payton.
Starters Will Take The Field
Kellen Moore updated the team’s plans for the preseason game during his Thursday media availability, and it sounds like a lot of starters are expected to see the field.
“The plan is to get as many starters playing as we can,” Moore said. We’ll see how long that goes, but we’ll try to get those guys some gametime action which will be great for those guys just to get them out there.”
Injured players will obviously be the exception like left guard Trevor Penning and perhaps right tackle Taliese Fuaga, who is nursing what sounds like a minor knee injury, per Moore.
But other players that have not seen the field yet this preseason could finally be in for some exposure.
Defensive ends Cameron Jordan, Chase Young and Carl Granderson are among the most notable, along with linebackers Demario Davis and Pete Werner and center Erik McCoy.
This will be a great opportunity for the Saints to have a bit of a “dress rehearsal” ahead of the season.
Spencer Rattler To Start At Quarterback
As for quarterback, Moore made the plan clear to start Rattler before turning things over to rookie Tyler Shough and third-year signal caller Jake Haener.
As for which quarterbacks will get snaps with the starters aside from Rattler, Moore is going to let that process play out based on how long the starters play.
“We’ll see,” Moore said when asked if both Rattler and Shough will see time with the first team. “We’ll see just as far as the depths of those groups and how long they can go.”
It stands to be an exciting day in the Caesars Superdome on Saturday, offering fans their first glimpse of the preseason as the majority of the starting unit.
