METAIRIE, La. – The New Orleans Saints have remained busy on Monday filling out the team’s practice squad.
In addition to bringing in pass rusher Eku Leota, the Saints also signed defensive tackle Coziah Izzard to fill out the team’s practice squad.
Head coach Kellen Moore announced the signing during his Monday media availability along with the release of long-time safety J.T. Gray.
Izzard, a former Penn State player, joins the team after being signed as an undrafted free agent by the Kansas City Chiefs this year. He went unclaimed following roster cuts despite putting together some promising play as a run-stopping interior defender with impressive athleticism to boot.
During his short stint with the Chiefs, the 6-foot-3, 305-pound defender was often featured as an even-front defensive tackle, but could move to be another backup nose tackle for New Orleans thanks to his great size for the position.
During his college career, Izaard notched 78 combined tackles (17.5 for a loss), nine tackles and a pair of fumbles forced.
He joins defensive lineman Jonah Williams as interior depth for the Saints’ defense.
