NEW ORLEANS, La. — It looks like the New Orleans Saints can breathe a sigh of relief Sunday morning as they prepare to take on the San Francisco 49ers at home.
Per NewOrleans.Football’s Nick Underhill, starting right tackle Taliese Fuaga is expected to take the field Sunday despite being questionable with a knee injury.
Fuaga did not participate in Wednesday’s practice after leaving the Week 1 game with injury. He was then limited for both Thursday and Friday’s practices. The second-year tackle told NOLA.com’s Matt Paras earlier in the week that he expected to be on the field for the Week 2 game. New Orleans is fortunate that he was right.
After leaving the game last week, offensive lineman Asim Richards stepped in and played well in pass protection, but Richards is still learning the new offense. Having Fuaga back out on the field will be a nice boost for the Saints’ offense.
Fuaga surrendered four pressures against the Arizona Cardinals last week. But the injury sounds to have had a lot to do with that.
“I got to play way better,” Fuaga told Paras. “I know I can play way better.”
He and left tackle Kelvin Banks Jr. will be in for a test against San Francisco as 49ers edge rusher Nick Bosa rushes the passer from both ends of the line.
