SEATTLE, Wash. – While the New Orleans Saints have not yet taken the field on Friday, head coach Kellen Moore met virtually with the media before practice and provided some key injury updates.
The headline: Saints defensive end Chase Young is expected to miss the Week 3 matchup with the Seattle Seahawks with the calf injury he suffered on the first practice ahead of the team’s season-opener. It wasn’t a surprise to hear that Young had been ruled out, considering he had not practiced Wednesday or Thursday before the team set off to Seattle where it will hold practice Friday.
This will be Young’s third-consecutive missed game to start the season. Young adamantly claimed that his injury was not a long-term issue, which has raised concerns as he’s continued to be out for games.
Chase Young didn’t provide specifics on his injury but said “hell no” when asked if it’s a long-term concern. He expects to be good soon.

But the NFL definition of “long-term” is much different than the public definition.
For instance, “short-term” Injured Reserve costs a player a minimum of four weeks and includes a three-week practice window for that player to return to the active roster. That can be a seven week process. If Young is back for the Week 4 game against the Buffalo Bills, he maintains the short-term timeline.
Along with Young, offensive lineman Dillon Radunz will also be out. Radunz was announced as such on Thursday’s injury report.
Fellow offensive linemen, tackle Taliese Fuaga and left guard Trevor Penning are expected to be questionable. Moore appeared to indicate that Fuaga, who has missed both of this week’s practices so far, may practice Friday.
“Yeah, we’ll just see how that goes,” Moore said when asked if he anticipates Fuaga practicing. “We’ll see how his day goes. We’ll be practicing in a couple hours…just take it minute-by-minute.”
Wide receivers Trey Palmer (hamstring) and Devaughn Vele (Hip) are also expected to be questionable. The injury report will be released later in the evening which will then share official game designations going into Sunday’s game.
