METAIRIE, La. – The New Orleans Saints have now seen defensive end Chase Young back on the field for two consecutive practices, signalling what could be a major boost to the defensive line this weekend against the New England Patriots.
Young was a late arrival to Wednesday’s practice, but was there from the start on Thursday as the team moved practice outdoors. Speculation of his return began when the Saints moved on from practice squad pass rusher Garrett Nelson earlier the week. The Saints signed Nelson in response to Young’s calf injury during Week 1 practices. So far, things look to be trending in the right direction for an eventual Young return.
The only player not seen during the open portion of Saints’ practice on Thursday was cornerback Isaac Yiadom, who also missed Wednesday’s practice.
Defensive tackle Davon Godchaux looked to get a light day of practice. He was not present during the stretch period but joined the defensive line group partway through individual drills. Godchaux also had a light rest day during last week’s Thursday session.
Offensive lineman Cesar Ruiz was also participating during the open portion of practice. Ruiz was initially expected to have a four to six week timeline to return from a high ankle sprain, but appears to be well ahead of that timeline.
