METAIRIE, La. – It was another day of virtually full attendance at Thursday’s practice for the New Orleans Saints.
The only player not seen was defensive tackle Davon Godchaux, which has become the usual practice rhythm for the veteran. Typically, the team focuses on third downs during Thursday practices. The reason for Godchaux’s absence is easy to observe in his down-by-down participation splits so far this season.
Godchaux’s snaps by down:
First down: 137 defensive snaps
Second down: 87 defensive snaps
Third down: 17 defensive snaps
With Godchaux being used mostly in early-down, base situations, the defensive tackle gets a day of rest midway through each trio of practice days.
The injury report will disclose more information regarding practice participation for running back Alvin Kamara, wide receiver Rashid Shaheed, running back Devin Neal and cornerback Alontae Taylor, all of whom were limited with various injuries on Wednesday.
