There may not be any players in the NFL with more unique records than New Orleans Saints running back Alvin Kamara and quarterback Taysom Hill. In the modern day of the league “positionlessness” has become an emphasis. Kamara and Hill are two shining examples.
This Sunday, as his team faces the Los Angeles Rams, Kamara is in line to etch himself into the history books yet again.
If Kamara gains at least 50 rushing yards and 50 receiving yards, he will become one of three in NFL history to achieve 25 such career games.
He’ll join former Rams running back Marshall Faulk (41) and San Francisco 49ers back Christian McCaffrey (36).
The Saints’ decision to start rookie quarterback Tyler Shough should provide Kamara, who is questionable going into Sunday’s game, with plenty of opportunities to reach the mark in Los Angeles.
Having an efficient run game is key for a young passer and an early focus on passing to Kamara out of the backfield could be used to get Shough into a rhythm. On top of it all, the Ram’s pass rush, which ranks second in the NFL in sacks, could generate quick pressures, forcing the ball to be checked down to backs and tight ends.
Should Kamara be full-go against the Rams, which his Thursday media availability suggests is possible, another accolade could be on the way for the five-time Pro Bowler.
