In the midst of a flurry of kicker-related roster moves on Monday, the New Orleans Saints made additional transactions that hint to a star player missing time.
In addition to signing kicker Cade York and releasing kicker Blake Grupe, the Saints made moves at running back. While star back Alvin Kamara’s status is in doubt for the team’s Week 13 Miami Dolphins matchup, New Orleans signed running back Evan Hull to the active roster from the practice squad and filled the vacated practice squad slot by signing running back Ian Wheeler.

With backs Devin Neal and Audric Estime already on the active roster, these transactions at the position appear to suggest that Kamara may end up being unavailable for Sunday’s game in Miami.
Kamara was tackled on the left sideline in the early goings of the Saints’ Week 12 loss to the Atlanta Falcons. In the process, his leg twisted awkwardly as he went to the ground. Kamara was evaluated in the injury tent and on the sideline before going back to the locker room. He was ruled out after halftime.
New Orleans has made a habit of carrying only two active running backs, even while Kamara was also dealing with a previously experienced ankle injury.
Upon his being ruled out, rookie rusher Neal stepped into a more featured role and impressed as a receiver out of the backfield. The team then also went to quarterback Taysom Hill out of the backfield.
The Saints recent roster moves at running back, despite falling into the background of a newsworthy day, indicate a very important possibility: that New Orleans could very well be without Kamara for at least one week as he manages what is reported to be an MCL sprain, avoiding major injury.
New Orleans is set to take on the Dolphins Sunday, who have the No. 29 ranked rushing defense in the NFL.
