His alma mater came calling. So did Memphis. But Baker has decided to remain LSU’s defensive coordinator LouisiansSports.net has confirmed. WDSU initially reported the news.
Baker has served two seasons at LSU and helped overhaul the 81st ranked unit in the country in 2023 to the No. 15 scoring defense in 2025. The Tigers boasted the SEC’s top red zone defense this season and finished seventh nationally in interceptions.
From 2000-2004, Baker played linebacker for the Green Wave. Despite aggressive pursuit from Tulane, Baker worked hard on this LSU signing class under new head coach Lane Kiffin.
Kiffin’s defensive staff from Ole Miss is remaining largely intact under Pete Golding who was promoted from defensive coordinator to head coach following Kiffin’s departure. Now LSU’s defensive staff could maintain significant continuity.
Baker handpicked edge rushers coach Kevin Peoples and safeties coach Jake Olsen to come to LSU from Missouri two seasons ago. Cornerbacks coach Corey Raymond is also likely to maintain his position.
