Just when it looked like the New Orleans Saints new staff was going to make it through the offseason unscathed, one coach is deservingly getting a shot at another job.
Per ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler, the Pittsburgh Steelers plan to interview Saints quarterbacks coach Scott Tolzien for their open offensive coordinator position.
Tolzien, a former NFL quarterback himself, was credited highly by the Saints’ 2025 quarterback room for their growth and development. He helped manage a competition in training camp for the starting role and prepared two starting passers during the year, including an Offensive Rookie of the Year finalist run for second-round pick Tyler Shough.
Meanwhile, the Steelers are going to be pursuing quarterback development. Tolzien is building a proven track record in that category.
The Steelers recently hired a new head coach, former Saints offensive coordinator and Super Bowl XLV champion head coach Mike McCarthy. With uncertainty at the team’s quarterback spot, the two would be a promising duo in carving a path forward for the franchise.
However, Tolzien will be wanted in New Orleans. The relationship he’s forged with Shough and his quarterback room is evident and losing that momentum going into 2026 would be a blow, leaving a big gap to be filled on the staff.
Tolzien is currently in Mobile, Ala. serving as the offensive coordinator for the showcase’s American Team.
