It’s been no mystery at all that the New Orleans Saints are interested in this year’s wide receiver class. The team has already had six top-30 visits reported with wide receivers and has done more than a fair share of additional work at the position.
One of the wideouts the team scheduled a visit with is Arizona State’s Jordyn Tyson. A bona fide first-round X-receiver, Tyson’s injury question marks have eclipsed his otherwise stellar resume.

Lining up opposite Chris Olave, Tyson would provide an impressive complement. Both have the ability to line up outside and in the slot, can run the route tree from the X or Z alignments and have a knack for making difficult catches.
Tyson would add some yards after catch production as well as a physical play style. He’s an excellent route-runner, like Olave, and has the playing demeanor of a dominating top option.
The partnership between Tyson and Olave would be further complemented with wide receiver Devaughn Vele, whose big frame brings surprisingly fluid movement and an expansive catch radius that can pull in difficult receptions.
The Saints should be looking to build around quarterback Tyler Shough, who showed a lot of promise during his rookie year.
This year’s wide receiver class is deep, making a first-round price tag on a player at the position something to consider with scrutiny. But if Tyson checks all of the boxes health-wise, he’d be worth the investment as the best player available early.

Pros
- Great route-runner with subtle,nuanced nature.
- Creates separation off the line of scrimmage with explosive release and violent hands.
- Dominant mentality and physical play style.
- Can win consistently in contested situations.
- Physicality extends to the run game as a blocker.
- Excellent body control out of breaks and in the air to come up with highlight reel grabs.
Opportunities for Growth
- Injury history is extensive with knee (ACL, MCL and PCL), collarbone and hamstring injuries costing him time since 2022.
- Straight-line and long speed limited.
- Some concentration drops on tape.
The Bottom Line
In order to invest the No. 8 overall selection in Tyson, the Saints must be comfortable with his medicals. The wideout will be a star at the next level if he can stay healthy, New Orleans will have to be very confident that it is the team that can keep him on the field.
If New Orleans is comfortable with his health trajectory and the help it can provide (upgraded facilities, medical department, etc.) then there’s very little reason not to invest in Tyson, who is undoubtedly this draft’s best wideout.
There’s risk here, but if the Saints feel secure in making the call, they’ll get a day one game changer for the roster.
