It was a great weekend of SEC baseball, but one that seemingly took a backseat to the NFL Draft. Luckily we watched it all, and are here for your recap.
LSU’s nail in the coffin
Perennial SEC powers struggling has been a theme to this season in the SEC. Tennessee and South Carolina under Paul Mainieri were perfect examples. Now it’s LSU’s turn to join the dysfunctional group therapy session.
They’ve forgotten how to win.
LSU has lost nine straight SEC games, but it’s the way they lost this weekend though that was so deflating. They held a lead in every game of the weekend of at least three runs. The Tigers led 7-3 Friday, 7-2 Saturday, and 8-5 on Sunday. They lost every game.
On Saturday it was a game tying grand slam by a freshman. LSU was unable to execute fundamental things on a baseball field all weekend. They can’t hit cut off men. They can’t pitch ahead. They can’t hold leads. And they can’t consistently come out and shove after putting up a crooked number on offense. That’s how you lose games, and that’s also how you get swept for the first time since 1985 against Mississippi State.

A moment for the Dude
I had to watch from afar, but even from television the takeaway was that Dudy Noble Field was jaw droppingly awesome all weekend. This weekend the whole town was on display, and the scene inside that stadium on Saturday night was unreal.
Haven’t seen anything quite like a sold out Dudy Noble Field on Super Bulldog Weekend. Jacob Parker grew up about 2 hours from Starkville. Both his parents went to Ole Miss. The Rebels wanted him, the Dawgs got him. pic.twitter.com/2Yd62Rsn8c

Who’s trending up? Who’s trending down?
Texas A&M was a big winner. The Aggies went to Gainesville for a three game series against a Florida team that has been phenomenal against top ten teams. The Aggies lost the opener, and Aidan King let them know about it.
That was the last time all weekend we heard any chirps from the Gator dugout.
The Aggies won their fifth straight conference series and are now 7-1 in their last three weekend series. Freshman Jorian Wilson continues to be a budding star going 5-for-12 on the weekend with two home runs.
Alabama is headed the opposite direction. The Tide won the first game 12-8 on Thursday, but they were dominated in the double header the following day. Tennessee outscored Alabama 21-4, including a 10-0 run rule loss.
Tennessee’s offense had scored ten or more runs in just two of their 18 SEC games coming into the weekend. They did it in back-to-back games against Alabama.
Speaking of trending upwards — is Tennessee about to go on a run? The Vols get Kentucky next week which could be a great spot for another series win.

Called our shot
It’s not often. My record at the ball under the hat game at Truist Park would make Missouri Baseball look like 1970’s USC. This weekend, however, we got another one right in our who’s on upset alert segment in the weekly preview. South Carolina beat Kentucky in two of three games this weekend, and came an eyelash short of a sweep. The upset pick is now 5-2 on the season.
