NEW ORLEANS — After an impressive rookie minicamp performance, the New Orleans Saints are reportedly signing one of the standout wide receivers from the weekend’s work.
Per NewOrleans.Football’s Nick Underhill, the Saints are signing former Jacksonville State wideout Brock Rechsteiner.
The son of former WWE Hall of Fame wrestler Scott Steiner, Rechsteiner is more than just a novelty signing with an interesting background. The wideout was easily one of the most impressive performers during the team’s pair of minicamp practices open to the local media.
His movement skills, solid hands and remarkable leaping ability were all eye-catching throughout the practices.
Rechsteiner didn’t get much opportunity to load up the statsheet while in college, catching just 53 passes for 629 yards and seven touchdown catches. But that’s exactly what these tryouts are all about.
The 6-foot-2, 225-pound receiver may not have had a lot of opportunities with Jacksonville State, but his athleticism and size are often coveted at the NFL level. With New Orleans hard at work this offseason making a number of changes at the position, Rechsteiner will represent a continuation of the influx of talent already acquired this season.
The Saints now will have 13 receivers on the roster, unless the team moves on from one to make room for Rechsteiner’s addition.
The Saints drafted a trio of wideouts: Jordyn Tyson, Bryce Lance and Barion Brown. They did not bring in an undrafted receiver, unlike in previous years. Rechsteiner will be the newest addition with a chance now to continue to stand out in OTAs, mandatory minicamp and eventually training camp.
