Gay Jr. may miss some time for Saints

The New Orleans Saints have had more than their fair share of injuries this year. Beginning back in training camp the team has a near-daily updating list of absences for various ailments including a concerning amount of soft tissue injuries.
That frequency has not improved since the regular season began. One week after losing starting center Erik McCoy for an estimated 6-8 weeks, New Orleans saw several starters exit their Week 4 loss to the Atlanta Falcons.
One of which, linebacker Willie Gay Jr., who was already filling in for injured starter Demario Davis, posted an update on his Instagram story. His story was shared to X by Saints On SI’s John Hendrix.
After an apparent procedure on the hand injury that sidelined him early in Sunday’s matchup, the linebacker appears to have a sling around his left arm. The severity of the injury and its treatment are currently unknown. But it sure doesn’t look like Gay Jr. will be back in the field in a hurry. At least not yet.
Along with his injury, the Saints will also be closely monitoring running back Alvin Kamara, wide receiver Chris Olave, tight end Taysom Hill and safety Tyrann Mathieu, who all either exited Sunday’s matchup or played through injury. Not to mention key contributors like Davis and right guard Cesar Ruiz who both missed Sunday’s action with their own injuries.
