One of the positions that’s seen the most change in the New Orleans Saints roster is tight end. With veterans Taysom Hill and Foster Moreau departed and new faces like free agency addition Noah Fant and rookie Oscar Delp added, the positions group has an entirely new and versatile look.
In an NFL that’s increasing in its usage of multiple tight end sets, this talented crop of players at the position is sure to be a benefit for the Saints if they choose to embrace the growing trend.
That makes this group one of the more intriguing to watch this offseason, despite how easy it may be to project the initial depth chart.
Tight Ends – 3 (10)
- Juwan Johnson
- Noah Fant
- Oscar Delp
The top of the position group already appears to be in place. Johnson returns as the position’s top option after a career year, while Fant joins on a new deal and Delp’s third-round draft status makes him a lock with a role that is expected to grow throughout the season.
New Orleans also has some young and promising options to potentially hold on to with their practice squad opportunities.
Treyton Welch has continued to develop and learn the new system, he was a standout in last year’s preseason and camp.
Zaire Mitchell-Paden was added via waiver last year during the season and is a fantastic blocker with the ideal size and build for the position.
Last year’s draft pick at the position, Moliki Matavao saw some decent exposure last year and has had a strong offseason so far, making him a top option for potential depth or practice squad spots as well.
Both players should be granted opportunities to continue to improve and work out their fits in head coach Kellen Moore’s offense. Their familiarity will be key if there are any injuries at the position, as well.
New Orleans also added former North Carolina State tight end Cody Hardy, who is now getting involved in the conversation, as well. But with a list of established players ahead of him, he’s got a tricky road to a spot in 2026. That doesn’t mean it’s impossible, but instead means that if he succeeds, the 6-foot-5, 271-pound tight end will be one to watch.
