Rantin’ & Ravin’: Belichick’s girlfriend isn’t the weird one

I turned 39 on Monday. You know what the worst part of being old is? Having to care about stuff I simply never imagined I would have to care about. 

Mortgage rates. Getting a Real ID. Finding out when the McRib is coming back. 

Don’t get me started on how many damn passwords I have to remember. And, what is the deal with the picture puzzle captcha at the end of that maze when trying to log in to something? You’re telling me that AI is gonna take our jobs when they can’t even tell what a sidewalk or bicycle is in a collage of pictures apparently taken from a flip phone?

It’s too much. I have too many things to care about. Which is why I have no capacity for caring about Bill Belichick’s relationship or the antics of his 24-year-old girlfriend. 

Don’t get me wrong, I cannot wait to see how Billichick’s tenure as head coach in Chapel Hill goes. That part is fascinating. How will the greatest coach in NFL history deal with NIL, college athletes and personalities, recruiting, and the fact that he won seven Super Bowls but is probably going to lose to people like Mario Cristobal and Brent Key?

Again, fascinating. 

But, I could not care less about his relationship with his girlfriend. You’re surprised that a 24-year-old is acting in a way you don’t approve of? You’re surprised that a 24-year-old woman and a closed-off man with little proof of emotional vulnerability aren’t in a fairytale relationship?

Crazy. Some of y’all have never watched Bravo and it shows. 

Here’s the bottom line – and the only part that really matters: why does anyone care? Why are so many people so worked up, so invested, and so quick to weigh in on their relationship?

This morning social media was set ablaze because of a story that Jordan Hudson was reportedly banned from the UNC football facilities. Hours later, an official University of North Carolina account corrected the reports and released a statement that she was not, in fact, banned and that those reports were untrue. 

P.S. UNC can now choose to describe or change its position on Jordon Hudson’s involvement however it wishes, following the publication of our episode. Hey, sidebar real quick – who’s UNC’s quarterback this season? I know. I didn’t know the answer either. But, I do know about Jordan Hudson’s real estate history, modeling career, and what Harry Potter house she belongs to according to Buzzfeed.

How do this many people have so much time and energy to care about these people? 

I don’t think a lot of the optics surrounding this couple have been great and I have no clue why they decided to do that 60 Minutes interview. However, I do know that I don’t care. And, you probably shouldn’t either because, well, it’s weird.
