Reports: Rizzi could join Broncos if Saints hire Moore

Now that the New Orleans Saints look to have zeroed in on Philadelphia Eagles offensive coordinator Kellen Moore as their next head coach, a major departure may be on the way. 

With the Saints and Moore expected to meet after the Super Bowl next week, the belief is that Moore will become the team’s next head coach. In the wake of that move, interim head coach and special teams coordinator Darren Rizzi would be left on the outside looking in. Such a scenario would then lead to Rizzi heading elsewhere. 

Per NFL Network insider Ian Rapoport, Rizzi is expected to land his next special teams coordinator role with the Denver Broncos, if Moore is indeed the hire. This would allow Rizzi to reunite with former Saints head coach Sean Payton who hired the special teams specialist in New Orleans back in 2019. 

Nick Underhill of NewOrleans.Football shared that Rizzi has not yet been requested by Denver and that the coach will wait out the Saints’ hiring process before taking other opportunities. But if not hired in New Orleans, Rizzi will most certainly be the favorite in the Mile High City. 

Rapoport also reports that the Broncos will do a “full and complete search” to film the role. But unsurprisingly, Rizzi will be the top candidate to assume the title.
