With the Ragin’ Cajuns, Sampson will be catching passes from former LSU quarterback Walker Howard, who landed in his hometown of Lafayette, La., after spending the last two seasons at Ole Miss.
Sampson, a 6-foot-4, 195-pounder from Catholic High (BR), was a consensus four-star recruit and the No. 80 overall player in the country for the class of 2023 in the On3 Composite. He signed with the hometown Tigers over Alabama, Florida State, Texas A&M, Auburn and dozens of other schools.
The talent didn’t materialize into production in Baton Rouge. Sampson finished his two seasons at LSU having played in 11 games without recording a reception.
LSU is losing three of its top four pass catchers from this season, but has added three receivers via the transfer portal.
