This week, as the New Orleans Saints prepare for their opening week action against the Arizona Cardinals, voting for team captains will also take place.

There are some obvious repeats, but some changes of the guard are expected, as well.

2024 Saints Team Captains

Offense:

Defense:

  • LB Demario Davis
  • DE Cameron Jordan
  • S Tyrann Mathieu

Special Teams:

  • S J.T. Gray
  • LS Zach Wood

With Carr and Mathieu having both retired and Hill on the Physically Unable to Perform (PUP) list to start the season, at least three new captains are likely.

Here are our predictions for the honors in 2025.

2025 Team Captain Predictions

Offense:

  • C Erik McCoy
  • RB Alvin Kamara
  • TE Juwan Johnson

Defense:

  • LB Demario Davis
  • DE Cameron Jordan
  • S Justin Reid

Special Teams:

  • S J.T. Gray
  • LS Zach Wood

The Saints appointed Kamara team captain after former head coach Dennis Allen was fired and when interim head coach Darren Rizzi took over. Rizzi described it as a “duh move,” and made it among his first decisions leading the team. New Orleans should continue that appointment into 2025.

McCoy absolutely deserves to hold on to his role and Johnson is added as one of the only multi-year starters beyond a rookie contract in the offense.

New Orleans could still name Rattler a captain, either alone or alongside others, but as a first-time starter with possible QB changes ahead, they may hold off.

No changes necessary on special teams as Gray gets his all-home badge as a five-time captain. Meanwhile, Reid is the obvious addition in the defensive side. He’ll serve as the quarterback of the defense and has already commanded a leadership role on defense.
