Frank Wilson leaving LSU, will join Ole Miss staff

October 28, 2025: LSU interim head coach Frank Wilson press conference after his first practice as head coach LSU Football Operation Building in Baton Rouge, LA. Michael Bacigalupi

The Texas Bowl will be Frank Wilson’s last game at LSU.

The interim head coach will leave Baton Rouge to join the Ole Miss staff, LouisianaSports.net has learned. Matt Zenitz was the first to report the news.

Wilson joined Brian Kelly’s staff in 2022 and has served as LSU’s running backs coach and recruiting coordinator for four seasons. When Kelly was fired in October, Wilson took over as head coach on an interim basis.

The move marks the end of Wilson’s second tenure at LSU. The New Orleans native previously worked under Les Miles as running backs coach and recruiting coordinator from 2010 to 2015 before becoming head coach at UTSA.

Wilson worked at Ole Miss from 2005 to 2007 as running backs coach and special teams coordinator, too.

The report did not specify Wilson’s role on Pete Golding’s staff in Oxford. The current running backs coach at Ole Miss is Kevin Smith who has worked for now LSU head coach Lane Kiffin for nine years.
