SEC Baseball Power Rankings: Texas Leads the Pack

After a long, underwhelming weekend around the SEC, the biggest theme for this week’s power rankings is uncertainty. The one thing we are certain of? Two teams have separated themselves from the pack through one month of the 2026 season. Here’s this week’s power rankings as we head into conference play.

1. Texas

This feels like it should be a 1A and 1B situation between Texas and Mississippi State. I just admittedly have a hard time putting one of two teams in the entire country that is still undefeated at No. 2 in the power rankings. Texas had a great week going 4-0 while extending their streak of ten or more runs scored to five games. They also still have the best pitching staff in the country and lead the SEC with a 2.31 ERA.

2. Mississippi State

It was very hard to not put Mississippi State at No. 1 after another impressive week. The Bulldogs do have two losses on the year which is two more than Texas, sure. Both of those losses however, came against top ten teams and by one run each. State has been great in all phases of the game this season. Most impressive has been their turnaround at the plate though, as they’ve raised their batting average by .120 points as a team since opening weekend.

3. Georgia

I’m going to regret this at some point because similar to last year, I’m not sure that Georgia has the pitching to get to Omaha. The bats are incredible though. I’m not sure if they channeled some of those 1990s LSU Gorilla Ball teams or somehow snuck in some minus five bats into this day and age, but my goodness they crush the baseball. Georgia leads the country in home runs with 61 and slugging percentage at .705.

4. Texas A&M

I’m not sure how far Texas A&M can go in the postseason. I do know that as of today they are one of two teams in the SEC that rank in the top five of batting average and ERA. The other is undefeated Texas. The Aggies haven’t played the most difficult schedule this season, but they have just one loss all year. That came at the hands of No. 1 UCLA. They’re more than deserving of being here.

5. Arkansas

The rankings are going to disagree and so are a lot of Arkansas fans. I don’t care though. Stop losing games. It’s that simple. It was nice to see Gabe Gaeckle have his best outing of the year this weekend going six innings with no earned runs and six strikeouts.

6. Auburn

Auburn’s pitching staff is awesome. The lineup leaves a little to be desired still. They rank last in the SEC in home runs (15), extra base hits (39), and slugging percentage (.458). They still rank in the top ten nationally for almost every major publication, and the pitching staff is absolutely good enough to get them back to Omaha.

7. Oklahoma

The Sooners were picked to finish 14th in the preseason SEC baseball polls and are still off to an incredible start. They sit at 14-2 heading into conference play. This week they went 4-0 and held opponents to one run or fewer in three of those four games. They open league play with one of the most underrated matchups of the weekend against Texas A&M.

8. Ole Miss

After a rough stretch in Texas two weeks ago, the Rebels bounced back. They swept Evansville on the weekend and went 5-0 during the week. They outscored their opponents 44-13 on the week including a 29-7 run over the weekend. The pitching staff has been elite all season ranking fourth in the SEC in ERA (2.71) and tied for the lead in strikeouts with 213 in 527 at bats. I don’t care who the opponents are, anytime you are striking out over 40 percent of batters faced, that’s winning baseball.

9. LSU

Yuck. LSU finished the week 1-4. That included losing their weekend series against Sacramento State who came into Friday just 3-9 on the season. The roster is absolutely loaded, and stats don’t always tell the whole story. In this team’s case, they certainly do though. The Tigers rank last in the SEC in ERA at 4.31 and are the only team who will finish the non-conference weekend portion of their season over 4.00. More concerning is that they rank 14th in the SEC at the plate with a .291 team batting average and dead last in fielding percentage as well at .966. Things need to change, and they need to change quickly for Jay Johnson’s squad.

10. Tennessee

I don’t know what Tennessee is at this point. I came close to Missouri here instead of them since they have won 12 games in a row. Tennessee did have a good weekend winning their series 2-1, but both wins were by one run, and they continue to be extremely underwhelming at the plate ranking last in the SEC with a .268 average. I’m putting them in the top ten for one more week though because their fans on social media are terrifying, and I fear for my safety if I drop them lower for now.

Best of the Rest

  1. Missouri
  2. Kentucky
  3. Alabama
  4. Florida
  5. South Carolina
  6. Vanderbilt
