New Orleans Saints
By Ross Jackson
The first day of New Orleans Saints rookie minicamp provided an early glimpse at some of the team’s new stable of players. Wide receivers like Jordyn Tyson and Bryce Lance put on a show while we learned about some ailments being handled for defensive tackle Christen Miller.
Going into the second day, there are still some outstanding updates and information to look forward to getting.
Will Miller Be Seen Observing?
Head coach Kellen Moore explained on Friday that Miller was on a different timetable than the rest of the drafted rookie class to do an injury he joined the team with. But with a couple of other players managing injury and still looking in during practice, like defensive tackle Zxavian Harris, it would be a positive sign to see Miller present even if not participating.
Which Players Are Getting A Chance In The Slot?
If the team only lines up on base during walkthroughs and 7-on-7 drills, this will be a moot point, but we did see a lot of three-receiver work from the offense Friday. Corners like Jeremiah McClendon and DaShawn Jones have experience in the area, but drafted corner out of Iowa TJ Hall is also versatile. It will be interesting to see which corners get their chances inside.
Are Any Off-Ball Linebackers Standing Out?
The Saints didn’t do much at linebacker this offseason aside from the impactful move of bringing in Kaden Elliss to fill the positional void left by the departure of Demario Davis. No draft picks, no free agent signings, no undrafted signings.
Instead, the team brought in three tryout players including the athletically gifted Memphis second-level player Sam Brumfield. This is a position ripe for addition, and one where a strong tryout could earn a 90-man roster spot for training camp.
