Three players to watch at Saints camp Day 3

Nate Bell

With their last looming question mark answered, the New Orleans Saints are headed into the third day of training camp with a sense of clarity they’ve not yet had this offseason.

As wide receiver Chris Olave’s contract negotiations have now concluded, the team will see the wideout re-take the field for team and 7-on-7 drills for the first time since camp opened, which headlines our three players to watch ahead of day three.

In fact, today’s trio is the group of top receivers, led by Olave. With him back in the mix, one of the most intriguing elements of Friday’s practice will be how the three wideouts are utilized together for the first time.

WR Chris Olave

It’s been clear that Olave has been itching for this moment. To have both his medical and contractual roadblocks cleared so that he can get to the field for competitive drills has been a goal of his for some time. Although his hold-in lasted only two practices, Olave now has his long-term future settled and can finally begin building chemistry with quarterback Tyler Shough in team drills.

WR Jordyn Tyson

Olave’s return isn’t expected to cut into Tyson’s opportunities. After catching his first training camp touchdown on Thursday, the rookie will look to build on that momentum with more big plays. Seeing an early glimpse of how he and Olave can complement each other sets the table for camp’s biggest entree.

WR Devaughn Vele

Vele has continued to be a go-to option for both Shough and backup passer Spencer Rattler. Getting Olave back is set to have a larger impact on him than Tyson, but Vele should continue to see more chances now to move around the formation. The receiver trio should be a big focus for Friday.
