The New Orleans Saints finished their final practice of the week ahead of their Week 2 matchup with the Baltimore Ravens and have two key players listed as questionable, while adding another new injury in what has been a tough week of practice for New Orleans.
The Saints will have three questionable players going up against Baltimore: wide receiver Chris Olave (hamstring), edge rusher Chase Young (calf) and rookie defensive lineman Christen Miller (toe).
One player has been ruled out, long snapper Zach Wood, who will be placed on Injured Reserve, forcing him out for at least the next four weeks. Linebacker Isaiah Stalbird will be doubtful with a shoulder injury.
Over the Saints’ three Week 2 practices, four players have been added to the practice report with in-practice injuries: Wood, Olave, Young and, now, Miller.
This was an early-season issue for New Orleans last year as well, which eventually balanced out as the year progressed.
The Saints can’t afford to be without Olave and Young but also would take a hit without Miller on the field. The Ravens are sure to challenge the Saints’ run defense throughout their bout. Being without Miller, who has been a standout on the interior for the defense would be a big loss for the team.
That Olave and Young still participated, despite their midweek downgrades, is a good sign for the team, who at least appear optimistic about the playmakers’ chances of taking the field.
A good piece of progress for New Orleans is that running back Alvin Kamara and edge rusher Cameron Jordan were not named. They are poised now to make their season debuts.
