What to watch for: LSU-Ole Miss and Week 3 is finally here
The wait is over. The day is finally here. LSU and Ole Miss will finally get to settle the score on the field, and we can all move on with our lives. Before that happens though, we need to discuss the rest of the slate because there are some big ones today.
Here’s what to watch for in Week 3.
Lane Kiffin the magic healer
Fun fact, since the start of the SEC Injury report there have been 46 players (not including Sam Leavitt) who were listed as ‘doubtful’ on the injury report. Only four of those 46 players ended up playing on Saturday. Those numbers went up to 5 of 47 with Sam Leavitt’s magical healing and removal from the report this week.
Very few people thought Leavitt wouldn’t play. I reached out to numerous people around the program on Thursday, and the feedback from inside the building was actual laughter when the initial report came out Wednesday night. Nobody in Oxford thought for a second Leavitt wouldn’t play. Ole Miss head coach Pete Golding said Kiffin called him before the report was released on Wednesday as well, and his exact response was, “Sure, Lane.”
South Carolina’s stars are back…kinda
LSU wasn’t the only team that got some good news with the final injury report on Friday night. Both Dylan Stewart and Jacarrius Peak weren’t on the final report 24 hours before game day. Neither star has played a snap for the Gamecocks yet this season, but that will change today against Mississippi State. However, their availability may be more limited than we originally thought, as head coach Shane Beamer said neither will start.
The world’s greatest metaphor
Arkansas takes on Georgia in today’s early game. This is only the third game of the Ryan Silverfield era, and he’s already answering questions about his obituary and tenure in Fayetteville. Last week, the Hogs were boat raced by Utah, 43-10. This week they welcome arguably the best team in the country, Georgia. It feels like Arkansas fans know what’s coming, but just in case they needed a reminder of the current state of their program, God sent a sign.
