It’s apparent left guard and the right side of our offensive line are liabilities. Of those positions, which one is most probable for a change?
I found it interesting that we never saw a new combination after the second week of SPRING football. It’s been Seaton-Bordelon-Moore-Bah-Davis every session the media observed. Sean Thompkins made starts for Baylor last year at left tackle. Devin Harper was a projected starter at Ole Miss. William Satterwhite has some SEC experience.
The first five have been constant.
Because of that, I can only guess as to where a change can be coming because there has been no public indication who is most likely. I’ll suggest Thompkins at right tackle, but I don’t think they’re planning on making a change. Remember, LSU ran the ball well in the second half. That’s vital to this offense. Leavitt can cover some of the pass protecxtion breakdowns with his feet. It’s not ideal, but it’s reality.
Do you think one of the wide receivers finally breaks out, or is it largely by committee all season? If so, who is most likely with Trey’Dez out?
I think Winnie Watkins has emerged as the top target. LSU has thrown his way 22 times to lead the team. Trey’Dez’s 18 is second with Tre Wilson coming in third at 15. Watkins has played 89 snaps in the slot. The second highest number there is 20 from Wilson. The Ole Miss transfer is clearly the guy there.
The trio of Wilson, Jackson Harris and Jayce Brown will be next up, and that group is good enough to win a game.
We knew in April that this team didn’t have Ja’Marr Chase or Malik Nabers on it. No Cam Coleman was coming in to be the alpha.
Watkins will lead the team in catches if he stays healthy.
Is Landon Clark going to start a game this year?
Not due to Leavitt’s play.
Reminder. Plenty of people wanted to move on from Jayden Daniels for Garrett Nussmeier after the 2023 Florida State game in Orlando because Daniels wouldn’t push the ball down the field. He won the Heisman.
People wanted Nussmeier benched last year. The results were poor when he got hurt.
LSU just lost by a score to a top 10 team on the road, and the quarterback needs to be benched again. Probably not.
Leavitt is not seeing the field perfectly and is erratic at times with his throws. Those are significant flaws he’s got to improve if LSU is going to make the College Football Playoff.
He’s also piloting an offense that hung 44 on Clemson and 24 on Ole Miss with two throws into the end zone for 30 or 32 points in a crazy atmosphere. He creates a ton with his legs behind a leaky pass protection unit and has big-game experience. He did lead LSU back from 17 down with some clutch play.
As opposed to switching quarterbacks, the better bet is allowing Lane Kiffin and Charlie Weis Jr. to coach this one who hadn’t started a game since last October. Perhaps some real improvement will come considering the next two games are at home, one against a struggling defense and the other against an FCS school.
