It’s Monday which means it’s time for our weekly SEC stock report. Who should you buy and who should you sell in a wild Week 7 in the league.
Stock Up: Heart Strings
Saturday was a not so subtle reminder that college football still rocks, and that sports in general are an incredible tool that bring people together. There was no better example of that than Saturday’s game in Athens between Georgia and Auburn. The Deep South’s Oldest Rivalry was awesome from start to finish. It culminated with Alex McPherson hitting a game-winning field goal to knock off the No. 1 team in the country.
Alex McPherson. What a moment.
For anyone unfamiliar with the story, McPherson was hospitalized a few short years ago and lost nearly 55 pounds. His road to recovery took a long time, and came with a ton of adversity on and off the field. That moment on Saturday between the hedges was another great reminder that sports are bigger than all of us.
Stock Down: Kentucky Doubters
Kentucky is tied for first in the SEC football standings. You read that right. They are tied for first, they are bowl eligible after just seven games and they are knocking on the door of a top ten ranking. This weekend they were once again doubted by everyone outside of Lexington, and once again everyone outside of Lexington was wrong. For just the second time in 42 years, Kentucky has started 3-0 in road conference games. The latest coming in a defensive masterpiece in Norman against Oklahoma.
Stock Up: People that hate Notre Dame
Notre Dame lost. America won. That’s how that works.
The Fighting Irish hadn’t played a ranked opponent in nearly 330 days going into Saturday, and in the Mormon mountains they found out once again how tough it is to win those games. No one cares about the officiating on the last play of the game. Notre Dame fans being upset about losing because they didn’t get the benefit of the doubt is hypocrisy at its finest.
The good news for Notre Dame is that, well, they are Notre Dame. That means they only have two more ranked opponents on their schedule and they’ll get two weeks of nobodies in between both. How blessed.
Stock Down: Arch Manning
Monday mornings aren’t easy for anyone, and Arch Manning’s Monday was no different. News broke this morning that Texas backup KJ Lacey Jr will get an uptick in reps with the first team this week ahead of Saturday night’s massive showdown against Ole Miss.
