Jay Johnson doesn’t shy from high level prep prospects. He seeks them out.

This week LSU secured a commitment from Buford High School (Georgia) outfielder Dexter McCleon Jr., one of the best prep outfielders in the 2028 class. Just a high school junior, McCleon Jr. is already 6-foot-3 and 210 pounds. He’s got a cannon of a right arm, has been clocked at 98 mph on the mound and runs the 60-yard dash in under 6.5 seconds.

A right-handed hitter and thrower, McCleon possession huge raw power.

Undoubtedly, McCleon will be a huge MLB Draft risk in two summers’ time. However, the MLB Draft could look much different when a new collective bargaining agreement is reached in 2027.
