LSU’s ground game could be without its most proven commodity at Ole Miss.
Sophomore running back Caden Durham injured his ankle on Saturday night against Southeastern Louisiana. That has put his status for Saturday in question.
“Caden Durham will be a day-to-day situation,” Kelly said. “He was better than we thought. It doesn’t show the signs of a high ankle, so he’s anxious to give it a shot and play, but we’ll monitor him through the week.”
Durham suffered a dislocated toe last season in the win over South Alabama. He played through the injury using an insert in his cleat for much of the season.
Ole Miss has struggled mightily against the run early this season. The Rebel defense ranks last in the SEC in run defense, 23 yards per game worse than 15th place Arkansas.
On3’s Pete Nakos and Shea Dixon have reported that West Weeks is “trending toward returning” for the game against Ole Miss. Weeks strained his calf in the second half against Florida.
“West Weeks ran (Sunday), and I think we got him at 90 percent, so I would say he’s probable,” Kelly said.
Kelly added that Trey’Dez Green will play against the Rebels. The sophomore tight end went through warmups on Saturday with a brace on his sprained knee.
“We felt like we could hold (Green) back for another week,” Kelly said.
Defensive end Gabriel Reliford suffered a subluxation of his shoulder in the first half against Southeastern. He was seen on the sideline with his arm in a sling. Kelly said that further evaluation will be done on the injury.
“He’s out this week, and then we will determine if surgery is necessary or he can play with it,” Kelly said. “We certainly want to respect the fact that, in this situation, a defensive lineman, you want to make sure he’s healthy. If he can’t compete at the level that he needs to, then we’ll look at the options, and surgery could be an option.”
