Some Tigers are taking the week to rest some injuries.
Right tackle Weston Davis suffered a concussion and a broken nose during pregame warmups at Ole Miss.
“He’s moving forward,” said LSU head coach Brian Kelly. “He’s doing well. My expectation is that he can clear protocol, but that’s one thing I never like to get into– who can clear the protocol. He’s moving in the right direction from that.”
Left guard Paul Mubegna is dealing with a high ankle sprain he sustained in Oxford. He left the game and didn’t return. Kelly said LSU would play it ‘day-by-day’.
As LSU looks for some answers in the running game, reserve offensive linemen are seeing reps at practice. Freshman Carius Curne played right tackle for the Tigers against the Rebels. It was his first career start, and Kelly saw familiar signs.
“He reminded me of Emory Jones as a true freshman,” Kelly said. “If you remember Emory technically wasn’t very sound, but he was fighting for dear life and was really active and made a lot of hustle errors. (Curne) was hustling and playing physical. You know, it’s hard to be a technician at this point, but we’re going to take what we can get from him. Hard play, physical play. He can move some people.”
Running back Caden Durham is beginning to ease his way back to action. Durham sprained his ankle against Southeastern Louisiana and was held out of action on Saturday.
“He was better (Wednesday), much better,” Kelly said. “We ran him in our run tracks in some team run. He did a better job. If he continues on this path, I’m pretty optimistic that he’ll be in good shape for next week.”
Kelly also indicated that sophomore quarterback Michael Van Buren took all the first team reps as Garrett Nussmeier rests his sore ab strain.
