Since their days on the second unit, Garrett Nussmeier and Aaron Anderson have shared a special rapport.
This week they shared the training room.
Both Nussmeier and Anderson have played through pain in September. Neither has been their best. Nussmeier’s ab strain has limited the quarterback in practices and has likely helped contribute to a slumping passing game. Anderson’s issues finally took him off the field last weekend in Oxford.
“(Anderson) had a litany of things, hip, toe, knee, yeah, he’s banged up,” said LSU Head Coach Brian Kelly. “If we were playing Saturday, he’d probably answer the bell, but he’s going to benefit him greatly from the week off.”
Anderson is second on the team with 23 catches. His 305 yards led the way. He’s yet to score a touchdown or reach 100 yards in a single game.
Kelly said on Wednesday that the team would spend a significant portion of the open date working on the passing game as that strength hasn’t performed like one early in the season.
That on-field work likely did not include the starting quarterback or his top target. Still, those two have worked together for three years and should be able to rediscover that spark once both are fully healthy.
Kelly expects Anderson to be ready next weekend.
“I think modern medicine will get him ready for the South Carolina game.”
