The bye week was good to LSU from an injury perspective.
Several Tigers who have been dealing with injuries look ready to go as preparation for South Carolina begins on Monday.
“Weston (Davis) is a go,” said LSU head coach Brian Kelly. “Caden (Durham) is a go. (Garrett Nussmeier) is a go. Paul (Mubenga) is questionable. And (Aaron) Anderson is probable. Those are the guys on our injury report right now.”
Davis suffered a broken nose and a concussion pregame at Ole Miss. Durham did not play at Ole Miss because of an ankle sprain he incurred against Southeastern Louisiana. Nussmeier has dealt with patellar tendinitis and an ab strain since fall camp. Mubenga has a high ankle sprain, and Anderson sat out the second half of the Ole Miss game with various maladies.
Should Mubenga be held out, LSU can turn to DJ Chester and/or Coen Echols at left guard.
Nussmeier’s situation has been discussed weekly as the tiger offense has struggled to produce at the rate it did a season ago. Kelly maintains that his senior quarterback is making strides.
“He’s feeling better and better,” Kelly said. “We didn’t do a lot with him last week. We wanted to use that as a recovery week for him. Obviously, he did a lot with (virtual reality). He stayed involved in everything that we’re doing, run game checks, blitz checks, things of that nature. But we just shut him down from the throwing. We’re going to go out today. We’ll get a bonus day in terms of being able to practice today. Our expectation after talking to him is that he feels good and is ready to go.”
With LSU taking on South Carolina this week, the SEC mandates availability reports Wednesday, Thursday and Friday of this week.
