The local media will be present at Thursday’s New Orleans Saints OTA practice, giving a first glimpse at the majority of the roster taking the field together.
Unlike the previous rookie minicamp, this portion of the offseason provides an opportunity for rookies and veterans to finally hit the field together. Here are three players we’ll be watching closely throughout the day’s work.
Some names go without saying, such as quarterback Tyler Shough and other established starts. This list will focus on a rookie, a returning player with captain experience and what may be the highest-profile position battle.
WR Jordyn Tyson
Tyson impressed during rookie minicamp with his smooth and precise movement skills, as well as his ability to line up and run routes from many alignments along the formation.
Now, seeing him tested against other veteran wideouts, like Chris Olave, will give an even greater glimpse into his potential. With an expectation that his snaps and exposure will be managed over the course of OTAs, early activity solidifies that this management is planned and scheduled.
LB Kaden Elliss
Elliss is returning to New Orleans this year after his departure three years ago. Upon his return, he’ll have an entirely new list of responsibilities. With a new defensive scheme and the departure of Demario Davis, Elliss’ on-field role has shifted dramatically since he was last with the Saints.
Seeing his vocal leadership begin to be introduced to his new-look team and how he figures into the system will each be of major importance to the team’s defensive success in 2026.
STAR/Slot Players
This one’s a bit more general, but it’s been the talk of the offseason. Which players line up in the slot (once nickel work begins to be seen) will be of interest to the media and fans alike. This is a foundational piece to defensive coordinator Brandon Staley’s system. Finding the right player to fit the role will be a process and OTAs may provide a very early look at who is in consideration.
