DBU’s latest export is headed to Kansas City.
Mansoor Delane was selected sixth overall in the NFL Draft by the Chiefs on Thursday night. The organization traded up in front of Washington and New Orleans to take him.
The former Tiger blossomed into a star in his one season in purple and gold. He was a unanimous All-American, the 14th in LSU history, and a finalist for the Jim Thorpe Award awarded annually to the country’s top defensive back.
After earning Third Team All-ACC as a junior at Virginia Tech, Delane reached another level under Corey Raymond in Baton Rouge. In 11 games, Delane only yielded two first downs in coverage. He was credited with 11 passes broken up and a pair of interceptions as offenses routinely shied away from his side of the field.
Delane becomes the sixth first round defensive back out of LSU in the last 15 years and the first since Derek Stingley Jr. in 2022.
His younger brother, Faheem, enrolled at LSU this semester and is now a safety with the Tigers after transferring from Ohio State.
