3 Dream LSU portal pickups. I’d go Rodriguez, Suchy, and Watters. *B. Trosclair* as well.
- I’ve been vocal that SS Chris Ramirez from Cal Baptist is the guy I think the most of. Elite middle infield glove and awesome bat control. I think his floor is remarkably high, and the ceiling is exciting as well. With the addition of Dawson Park, Ramirez feels less likely. They still have outfield holes to fill and are always looking for arms. My next two would be Brody Trosclair from Northwestern State though I’m a little leery of the elbow surgery and Bino Watters from Notre Dame. I think he’s the left-handed balance LSU needs in a lineup likely headlined by Cade Arrambide and Omar Serna (yes, I’m glad Mason Braun hits left-handed). I don’t think Watters is coming to LSU, though.
Is reseeding post baseball regionals or in Omaha a truly silly idea? Troy v Little Rock is amazing imo.
- I wouldn’t do it. I understand the sentiment, and they could realistically seed the field 1-64 if they had to so that the reseedings are easy. They certainly operate that way with fewer teams in the NFL playoffs. But I like the bracket format. Sometimes you catch a break. Sometimes you don’t. Sometimes you think you catch a break when Stony Brook rolls into town…I’d leave it alone.
How did you feel about Butch Thompson’s comments regarding regional format?
- I love the regionals. They’re absolute chaos for four days. However, I would support going to a three-game series format for the pre-Omaha rounds. It’s the way the season is set up and would limit the urge to bring a starter back after 126 pitches on one day of rest. That happens every year, and I don’t love it. Butch has a point. But I don’t see the change coming anytime soon.
Is the Opening Day starter for the 2027 LSU baseball team currently on the roster?
- Between Casan Evans, William Schmidt and Landon Hood, I’ll say yes. I doubt the Tigers nab another high-profile starter in the portal outside of maybe Trosclair (if you call him a starter), and he won’t be ready to start opening day. Cayden Suchy from UConn would be interesting if LSU could land him, but that’s far from a certainty. And I don’t think a true freshman gets that nod from a great signing class. So, I’ll say yes with a slight lean toward Evans at this point.
How many alternative uniforms will LSU football wear this year under Kiffin?
- It’s one of my great fears. If I get a chance to ask Kiffin a question in Tampa at SEC Media Days, it will literally be the first one. If LSU comes out of that north endzone tunnel in something stupid like Ole Miss’s paint spatter, camo white helmets, a small piece of me will die. Is that dramatic? Of course. Can I change it? Nope. Gold helmets, white jerseys, gold pants. Forever.
Does Will Wade win an NCAA tournament game in 2027?
- I would really like to know who is one the floor come November, but I don’t get that luxury, do I? Wade has qualified for six consecutive NCAA Tournaments over three stops. That would suggest LSU is a reasonably good bet to make the field. Then you’ve got to win a game. What month is it? June? Sure, they’ll win a game. Why not?
