Station Survey: ESPN staff picks LSU-Auburn

Michael Bacigalupi

Jacob Hester, Co-Host, Off the Bench: Jordan-Hare might be the toughest place in the league to play. It’s going to be a challenge for the Tigers. I still think they go on the road and win. 31-21, LSU.

Matt Flynn, Co-Host, Off the Bench: Leavitt is getting better. They Tigers propel themselves into November with a nice win. 31-27, LSU.

Charles Hanagriff, Co-Host, Live at Lunch: LSU 30-21…the road team will throw it better than the home team

Hunt Palmer. Host, Hunt Palmer Show: I think these quarterbacks are going to play really well. Byrum Brown will run it. Sam Leavitt will throw it. Points are coming. LSU hasn’t made the plays at the end against Ole Miss or Kentucky. They will this time. 30-27, LSU.

Matt Moscona. Host, After Further Review: It’s never easy at Auburn. This series began their annual matchup in 1992. During that stretch, LSU is 6-10 on The Plains and has won one game by more than a touchdown, a 31-19 win in 1998. Lane Kiffin’s squad is the more talented team—hence being a touchdown road favorite—but the mistakes in two road games have led to the team’s two losses. Reluctantly, I’ll pick LSU to play a cleaner game than they did at Kentucky. They also won’t have to deal with Trinidad Chambliss. LSU, 31-27.

Paul O’Neill, Video Producer, Off the Bench: The LSU offense took a step forward last week against a banged up Mississippi State. The big question is can Auburn avoid the letdown after pulling off the upset over No. 1 Georgia. The Tigers face a BIG test in Auburn QB Byrum Brown…literally. Brown reminds me of Cam Newton. He’s big bodied, tall and can flat out run you over. Can the Tigers defense contain him? Shut down the Auburn run game, trust the arm of Sam Leavitt, and protect the football! If the Tigers can do those things, they should leave Jordan-Hare with the victory. 30-20, LSU.

Matthew Musso, Audio Producer, After Further Review: This will be LSU’s first real test against a dual-threat quarterback without Whit Weeks. That didn’t go great a year ago. Brown’s physicality will allow him to get his, but  I think LSU does enough to make him beat them with his arm. I don’t believe he’s capable of doing that against this defense. Lane Kiffin’s offense seems to be finding its stride. They’ve scored 30 or more in four straight games. Sam Leavitt just played his best game in an LSU uniform. It needs to translate to the road. Protect the ball, and get out of there with the win.30-24, LSU.

Taylor Sharp, Video Producer, Off the Bench: I think LSU wins this game but what concerns me is that it’s Auburn in Jordan-Hare.  Weird things happen in this game and it’s such a tough place to play!  I just don’t think that Auburn has the offensive firepower to hang with LSU.  If the Tigers defense shuts down Byrum Brown as a runner then I don’t believe Auburn’s other weapons will be able to make plays consistently.31-14, LSU.

Jordan Kitchens, Audio Producer, Hunt Palmer Show: Hard-fought SEC game; Auburn covers easily but the Tigers get the monkey off their backs with a road win. 24-20, LSU.
