With the NFL Draft approaching, teams are starting to meet privately with individual prospects to get a closer look ahead of the selection process. These visits span a variety of formats from private workouts to dinners to coveted “Top 30 visits” which brings the player to the team facility for a visit.
During these visits, teams can conduct on-field workouts, allow players to meet with coaches and staff, and give medical personnel the opportunity to evaluate any pre-existing injuries or conditions.
This is a vital portion of the draft process, with each team taking its own version of the approach.
Last year, the Saints held these workouts and visits with several players that the team ended up selecting in the draft. Second-round pick and now-starting quarterback Tyler Shough and fourth-round cornerback Quincy Riley were among the team’s Top 30 visits. Meanwhile, the Saints were notably the only team in the league to conduct a pre-draft visit with fourth-round linebacker Danny Stutsman.
It’s important to note that “Top 30” visits are named for the limit teams have on bringing prospects to their facilities. They are not an indication that a team ranks those players among its top 30 prospects.
Throughout the process, we will track reports of private workouts and visits here, so that you can stay up-to-date with the latest on the Saints’ draft targets.
